FAQ

Who are we?

Brett Gerry Films is a non-profit filmmaking organisation run by husband and wife team Brett and Corinne Gerry. We began in 2006 producing short films but now focus completely on feature productions.

What do we do?

We are attempting to implement important changes throughout the mass audio-visual media, not only through our work, which demonstrates alternative processes to those currently accepted by the hierarchal and inhibiting media production system, but in the reviews and observations expressed daily on this blog.

Why?

Modern media education, theory and production is in a debilitating and patronising cul-de-sac. Commonly accepted practices and beliefs – which included, but are not limited to, the facile importance given to story, and the negative attitude of modern commentators and practitioners to non-professional participants – must change if the damaging gulf between creators and consumers present in this country and abroad is to be reconciled.

How can we achieve this?

Only through successful real-world examples can we demonstrate that viable alternative processes to the closed minds of many modern media professionals, including educators and decision-makers. Success must not be measured in terms of a base Hollywood-style commercial achievement, and not only in the artistic empowerment of those involved, but in clear and concise documentation of the film-making process; documentation that supports a replication of these techniques and promotes alternative methods of film production, distribution and reception to fellow filmmakers, media professionals and the viewing audience.
